Anchoring of personal fall protection equipment

Walkways, roof ladders, ridge rails, snow fences and rails around roof hatches may be used to anchor personal fall protection equipment. This is on the condition that they are installed in accordance with the installation instructions and that they have been maintained in an appropriate manner, that they have been inspected and that they are considered to be in acceptable condition.

Remember

To make sure that the installation is done according to the applicable installation instructions and that is has been maintained in an appropriate manner.

To stay on the safe side, you should perform a risk analysis before anybody goes up onto the roof.

Safety equipment requirements

The following safety equipment is approved for the anchoring of personal fall equipment:

  • A walkway must comply with SS-EN 516 Class 2, Type B.
  • Older walkways that have been tested with the previous dynamic test method.
  • A roof ladder must comply with SS-EN 12951 Class 2, Type B.
  • Older roof ladders that are mounted at least at the top and at the bottom.
  • Ridge rails must comply with SS 831331.
  • Snow fences must comply with SS 831335.
  • Rails around ascension hatches must comply with SS 831332.
  • Anchor loops (attachment loops) in accordance with SS 831331 and during a period in accordance with EN 795.

 

What applies to existing roof safety?

The products above are approved for the fastening of personal fall protection even based on older standards. These are P-marked according to Swedish Standard SS by the SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden .
